Enrich Tutoring BlogAll over the country parents are bracing themselves for the 3 o clock war. Kids come home tired after the day at school and it takes a lot to convince them that homework should be done...and pronto. Smart parents turn the tables on the children and set up some simple habits that make homework a breeze. Firstly, homework doesn't have to be done the minute you get in the door! A drink of water, a snack and a play for an hour does wonders to recharge batteries. It convinces them that are truly on their side and so half the battle is over. Secondly, homework doesn't have to be done in one hit. Valuable time management skills are learnt when you teach them to look at each separate task and estimate the time it takes... Spelling is a task best done in small amounts and often. So the key to learning it well is to use small amounts of time that occur often in the day. The walk or drive to school is great time to go over the words. So is bath time. Try dividing the usual ten words into sets of three. Learn the first three words and then add in the others throughout the week. Times tables and math facts are great to learn when you stop at traffic lights or waiting for dance/sport training. There is also the classic but underrated back of the toilet door. Break it into small amounts,do it often and the the war will be won! May the force be with you! Tags: Learning difficulties
