Has my child got a problem or are they just being naughty?I get asked this question quite often.

There are some simple tests you can run on your child to work out if there is a learning difficulty and it won't cost you anything to run them! Yes that's right ! Free tests for learning difficulties!

Here are the five things you need to check out...

1) Does your child comply when you ask them to do one thing? For example,  Brush your teeth.Pick up your bag.  Now add in some more detail or further instuctions. Pick up your bag and put it in your cupboard.Does it get more difficult the more information you add? If the answer is yes,the more instructions, the less 'compliant ' they become, then you need to investigate a little further.

2) Are they organised? Or are they a walking, breathing mess? Do their shoe laces come undone and their hair messed  up at the drop of a hat? Always losing things? It could be a sign of a bigger difficulty.

3)Do they mistake like sounding words or get words muddled up?

4) Are they bright but it doesn't show up in results from school?

5)Do they have trouble focussing on what you are saying when there are people talking or  other noises about?

If you answer yes to 3 or more of these things then it is worth getting things checked out. They can be the subtle signs of an underlying difficulty. Sort out the problem and the 'naughty' behaviour goes away.

By talking to us about their learning difficulty you can head off problems before they become huge for everyone concerned. Flick us an e mail ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
